There is no point in looking for meanings or an emblematic moment in history, the city or the country, which justifies the name. If the second hotel of the Torel Boutiques brand in Porto is called 1884, it is only due to the date of construction of the building where it is located. And that alone is enough. Especially because it is not just any building.
Ingrid Koeck, the founder, had been watching him since the moment he arrived in Porto with the purpose of giving his Torel Palace in Lisbon a “brother”. But other issues got in the way, namely the faster advance of Torel Avantgarde, in Rua da Restauração, so it was left for later. Your time has come.
It is probably the most exotic entrance to Rua Mouzinho da Silveira, located right in the centre of downtown Porto. At the door of number 228, there are vases with plants and granite walls. In this nineteenth-century palace, built precisely in 1884, a bank functioned and when the building became unoccupied, it immediately fell in love with Ingrid Koeck, partner of the Torel Boutiques group. After the opening of the Torel Avantgarde hotel, in Rua da Restauração, in 2019 the group’s turn to venture into the arteries of the heart of the city with a new local accommodation project.
The group believes in a family atmosphere, with high-level service, in a comfortable and elegant environment, where you can feel at home. Each of our properties – Torel Palace Lisboa, Torel Palace Porto, Torel Avantgarde Porto, Torel 1884 Suites & Apartments Porto and Torel Cliff Óbidos – have a particular and authentic character, and what they have in common is the special attention to the individual needs of each guest.
Each of the 24 rooms and Suites is named after a Portuguese writer or poet, among them Fernando Pessoa, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, and Bocage. We offer eight categories on the four floors of the Palace in different sizes.
Torel Boutiques arose from the passion for providing services, and the desire to do so in an individualized, personalized and unforgettable way, in the unique places where the infrastructures are located.
