Sublime is a very demanding adjective. Among the various attributes to which it refers, it stands for “excellent,” exceptional, “supreme” and even “transcendent.” The least that can be said is that aspiring to something that is intended sublime requires courage. This project was motivated by this ambition that Gonçalo Pessoa, TAP commander, and Patricia Trigo launched in 2014 in a tourist project, thought to position themselves to the height that the adjective deserves.

The ground from which they left offered advantageous conditions: 17 hectares of land, sheltered by a splendid forest of meagre pines and cork oaks, on the edge of rice fields and a few kilometres from the Sado estuary. These are the unique circumstances of the natural park landscape that stretches between Alcácer do Sal and Melides, accompanied by a coastline of wild beaches, less than an hour from Lisbon.

Nestled on a stunning 17-acre estate, surrounded by undulating umbrella pines and cork trees, wild sand dunes, stunning rice fields and over 60km of pristine, white-sand beaches is Sublime Comporta – a magical, unspoiled place yet to be discovered. Only one hour from a European capital, here wildlife is abundant, time seems to stand still and one is able to experience all that is genuine and authentic.

Rich in cultural heritage, with a welcoming local population, great foods and wines, Sublime Comporta offers a combination of tranquillity and simplicity that is both addictive and inspiring, reminding us of the magic of experiencing more with less.

The rooms and villas stretch across several buildings adding to the exclusivity of the hotel. These are the Main House, the Guest House and the Villas. The hotel includes 23 bedrooms and suites as well as several 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom “cabana” villas.

Sublime Comporta has three swimming pools. Two outdoor pools one for adults and one for children and 1 indoor heated pool for adults.

Built on the principles of permaculture, this extraordinary organic garden includes over 300 varieties of herbs, vegetables and edible flowers. These are used in the Restaurants, Bar and Spa, providing unique experiences – both sensorial and gastronomic.

The architecture of the hotel gives precedence to the selection of sustainable materials that have the least impact on the surrounding nature. Only the central block of many of the villas have a basement, the rest are built on stilts (lower impact build), in addition, to avoid cutting down trees, many of the villas have actual trees built in them. The creation of a minimalist environment, with floor to ceiling windows in which nature plays the leading role, is also key in raising awareness for a sustainability attitude.
