On their first visit to Quinta da Pacheca, even before its acquisition, the current owners envisioned the possibility of sleeping in giant barrels as soon as they entered the estate’s ageing Port wine cellar and became dazzled with the size of the existing vats. From this idea to the first sketches, it only took a few months, in full tune with architect Henrique Pinto, to build what would become the current Wine Barrel’s by Quinta da Pacheca.
In 2012 a new cycle began when the new owners took the ownership of the project. The focus was clear, enhancing the quality of wines and invigorate the wine tourism. With its unparalleled singularity, Quinta da Pacheca has become one of the most visited estates in the Douro Region and has been consecutively awarded in wine tourism, an example of this is the prestigious distinction of Best of Wine Tourism* in various modalities, and in its famous wines which have been receiving the most distinct awards.
Surrounded by the centuries-old vineyards, one of the tallest grounds of the estate is lined with 10 giant barrels, each featuring unique architectural and design elements, and interior decorative elements inspired by vintage references. An original circular glass door gives access to the outside deck from where you can admire the monumentality of the Douro Valley. This surely was a well-deserved distinguishment by the Best of Wine Tourism Awards 2020!
