CASA A
The house is sited in a typical peripheral region lot, in Guimarães, characterized by a surrounding high-density residential area. The project was developed according to the immediate needs regarding the context – privacy and the natural topography of the site.
The two-story house was designed in consonance with a proposal that revolves around two different use relations defined by the creation of voids and yards – exogenous or endogenous – that correspond to the type of program that they define (social or private). For the social areas of the house, it was established exogenous voids and yards that allow transverse relations between the inside and the outside, as well as expand the living area when the doors are fully open.
Casa Em Monsaraz
Facing the infinite extension of the Alqueva lake, a courtyard, a center for the house, is sought out, protected and simultaneously open on the water.
Using topography, a cap is drawn that extends the social areas, becoming the center of life in the house. Shaping the light in this space, another symmetrical cap intersects this, creating an opening that illuminates this center with strict design and limits.
The spaces in the rooms open on circular spaces. The scale of the house in this vast natural landscape will be that of the patios and the upper cap, the only visible elements, painted a luminous white.
