Known as the ‘Tourism Oscars’, the World Travel Awards are given by professionals in the sector and the ceremony in which they are released was replaced this year by a virtual format, due to the covid-19 pandemic.

From the extensive list of awards, Portugal won 21, including the city of Porto, with the award for Best Destination ‘City Break’ in Europe, and Lisbon elected as the Best European Cruise Destination.

The Algarve again became the Best Beach Destination in Europe and the Azores were distinguished as the Best Adventure Tourism Destination.

“It is with particular pride that we received this award, in this atypical year”, said the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rita Marques, in a statement released by the Ministry of Economy and Digital Transition.

The Secretary of State for Tourism added: “It is yet another proof of international confidence in our destination and an acknowledgement that Portugal’s attributes remain intact and ready to be discovered by all who wish to visit us, always respecting the rules defined by the authorities”.

In this year’s edition, in addition to several hotels and ‘resorts’, initiatives and entities such as the Dark Sky Alqueva project, the Passadiços do Paiva or the air carrier TAP were also recognized.

Portugal eleito pelo quarto ano consecutivo Melhor Destino da Europa ♦ Portugal foi eleito pelo quarto ano consecutivo como o Melhor Destino da Europa na edição 2020 dos World Travel Awards, segundo os resultados divulgados no domingo à noite.

Conhecidos como os ‘Óscares do turismo’, os World Travel Awards são atribuídos pelos profissionais do setor e a cerimónia em que são divulgados foi este ano substituída por um formato virtual, devido à pandemia de covid-19.

Da extensa lista de prémios Portugal arrecadou 21, entre eles a cidade do Porto, com o galardão de Melhor Destino ‘City Break’ da Europa, e Lisboa eleita como o Melhor Destino Europeu de Cruzeiros.

O Algarve voltou a ser o Melhor Destino de Praia da Europa e os Açores foram distinguidos como o Melhor Destino de Turismo de Aventura. “É com particular orgulho que recebemos este prémio, neste ano atípico”, disse a secretária de Estado do Turismo, Rita Marques, num comunicado divulgado pelo Ministério da Economia e Transição Digital.A secretária de Estado do Turismo acrescentou: “É mais uma prova da confiança internacional no nosso destino e um reconhecimento de que os atributos de Portugal permanecem intactos e prontos a ser descobertos por todos quantos nos desejam visitar, sempre respeitando as regras definidas pelas autoridades”.

 

Para Rita Marques, “saúde, proteção e confiança são sinónimos inquestionáveis da oferta turística nacional”. No dia 27 serão conhecidos os prémios da edição mundial. Na edição deste ano, além de vários hotéis e ‘resorts’, foram ainda reconhecidas iniciativas e entidades como o projeto Dark Sky Alqueva, os Passadiços do Paiva ou a transportadora aérea TAP.
