Christian Louboutin is a French designer whose high-end stiletto footwear incorporates shiny, red-lacquered soles that have become his signature. The creator returns to Portugal every year to get inspiration for the summer collections. The light, the Portuguese people and the Portuguese vibe are what made it fall in love in the first place.
Christian’s Louboutin’s love for Portugal is known worldwide, and now is not just the inspiration source for the French designer’s creations, is also the theme of his new limited collection. ‘Portugaba’ is the luxury tote bag Louboutin created to pay a tribute to the country that welcomed him. Manufactured in Portugal with Portuguese handcrafted techniques the Portugaba bag is available in two colours and is exclusively on sale at the website My Theresa. The first product available sold out immediately.
The handcrafted methods include a thorough technic of pulling individually the yarns of a piece of fabric to create prominences with interesting textures, similar to velvet and slatted. Both technics demand “a thorough attention and several hours of dedication”.
“These experts are used to do handcrafted work, don’t use patterns, guidelines or machines besides wood looms machines”, as one can read in the official website of the French designer passionate about Portugal. Louboutin will even open a charming hotel in Alentejo.
Folklore, symbolism and Portuguese history are part of the bag’s design. The handles are decorated with ceramic beads, which refer to the patterns of the Portuguese tiles and also served as inspiration for the lining. The traditional Capa de Honra (honour cape) from Miranda do Douro e also visible in the central panel of Portugaba.
Louboutin, the famous red sole shoe creator, is so passionate about Portugal that is going to open a charming hotel in Alentejo.
