Troia Golf has risen nine places to the eighth-best European course for the sport, being at the top of the “Top 100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe 2019” elite. The list, published by Golf World magazine, assesses six components: design quality, configuration, gameplay, presentation, memorability, and hole consistency.
The 36-hectare course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior, scored 82.9 out of 100 possible points, with the judging panel awarding high scores on all criteria.
In addition, among the top 100 destinations for the sport, gathered in the “Top 100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe 2019”, there are ten Portuguese. The West Cliffs resort in Óbidos is listed 17th, followed by the Algarve Quinta do Lago (29th) and Palmares Golf Course (31st), D’El Rey Beach (44th), located in Óbidos, and Oitavos Dunes (51st), from Cascais.
Also listed are the luxury resort Penha Longa (80th place) in Sintra, the Algarve Vilamoura (Old) (82th place) in Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago (97th place) in Almancil. The best golf course in Europe in 2019 is the French Morfontaine, located in the French city of the same name.
