The new cocktail bar in Lisbon has been in soft opening since the beginning of June. The official opening will be in the second half of July. In recent weeks have been presented menus with suggestions that will be part of the final list that will have more than 20 proposals. The base will never be the same either. At the start of the project, rum-based cocktails will be made. Six months later, drinks with tequila can be tasted. “We wanted to create a space to demystify some spirits and make other products known,” explains NiT Hugo Gonçalves, 35, one of three members of Electric Shaker.
He worked at the bar of the Hard Rock Cafe in Lisbon, and there he met Ana Marques and Luís Garcia, the other two people in charge. Hugo has always been linked to jail and has gone through several countries. The last space of the mark where it was was in Australia, where it was the director of operations. Ana Marques, after the experience in the bar, went to the bench, before returning now to the cocktail area. Luis Garcia has also been working in some bars in London. The three left the jobs to dedicate themselves to this project.
“We live a few years outside of Portugal and we realize that Lisbon has evolved a lot in restaurants, but not so much in bars. The goal was to bring in a bar where people would appreciate what they are drinking and understand the reasons why certain drinks work well together. “
Since the beginning of June, every two weeks they change the letter. Smaller menus, with only eight suggestions, but everything to make known the proposals of the final letter. It will have 80 per cent of suggestions based on rum and still classic proposals. It has, for example, Rum Old Fashioned, with El Dorado 12 years and bitters (10 €); El Viajante, with gin Mare and cherry tomatoes (€ 11); or the Eletrick Lady, with Havana, pineapple juice and cinnamon (€ 11). The menu also has some snacks and tapas to accompany the drinks. The counter has over 200 bottles, which are used in various preparations. It’s a cocktail lounge, more lounge, but the music is not lacking either. Funk and the modern record will be what you will hear most.
The decoration was created by the three people responsible. The works lasted two months. The project is being talked about since December 2018. In just six months they set up the concept, created the drinks and opened in Picoas, on Avenida Duque de Loulé. The Electric Shaker seats 70 people. It will be running from 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., every day of the week.
