Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramist, stage designer, poet and playwright. Regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore.
This is the one that promises to be Pablo Picasso’s biggest exhibition in Portugal. It is called Suite Vollard and will be able to be visited from May 30 at the ‘Palácio das Artes’, in downtown Porto. The collection was acquired by the Spanish foundation Mapfre in 2008 will be exhibited for the first time in Portugal until September 11 and results from a partnership between Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto and the Taylor’s Port Wine House.
It includes more than one hundred original works made by Pablo Picasso between 1930 and 1937. According to the official page of the event, “the engravings do not follow any logical sequence in the images”, and the temporal chronology obeyed mainly to the external and personal events of the artist.
In addition to admiring the Suite Vollard exhibit, visitors can then sample a glass of Port wine in the Taylor’s Lounge space, at the foot of the exhibition halls. Children up to 12 years old are free of charge.
