‘By The Wine Azeitão’ Is The Restaurant You Need To Know About ♦ The second space with the designation By the Wine to open in four years. First, it was in Chiado, now it’s in Vila Nova de Azeitão. At the By the Wine Azeitão table comes the rustic Algarve bread, two types of extra-virgin PDO olive oil, olives and tomato passata (€ 3). For those who don’t go without soup, there is Asparagus Cream with Sautéed Asparagus Heads (€ 5.50) and a calf carpaccio (€ 10) with Pistachios, arugula and Parmesan cheese. Still, in the snacks, the letter suggests some spicy sardines fillets, (€ 8,50) with roasted peppers, red onion and coriander. In the best of the national tradition, there is also the popular Meia Desfeita (€ 9), with Cod, chickpeas, red onion and parsley. For the most demanding stomachs, there is always a sirloin nail (€ 10) and a roast beef sandwich (€ 9) with honey, arugula and parmesan mustard.
If the idea is a complete meal, at By the Wine Azeitão there is a low-temperature pork belly (€ 14), with the crisp skin and Alentejo vinaigrette and an irresistible veal cheek from chef José Júlio Vintém (€ 18), stewed in Red wine with a baked potato. To share there is also the Chuletón (€ 30) served with baked potatoes and homemade mayonnaise. The menu also includes boards of Iberian Bellota ham (€ 9), chorizo (€ 9), sirloin (€ 11) and sausage (9). If you prefer, you can have everything on the same board (€ 20).
In By the Wine Azeitão’s letter, there are still three-cheese proposals, with Azeitão’s (€ 6.50) worthy of mention. But it is best to choose a mixed cheese board with Parmesan, Manchego, Island Cheese, Alentejano and fig jam (€ 14). Azeitão pie (€ 3) is also part of the desserts, returning here the best bet being the trilogy (€ 9,50) with a mix of Azeitão Pie, Almond Pie and Chocolate Cake.
By The Wine is José Maria da Fonseca’s first flagship store in the historic centre of Lisbon, located in Chiado.
