Il Gallo d’Oro
Since 2004 the kitchen is under the meticulously care of the talented French Chef Benoît Sinthon. Back in 2009, Il Gallo d’Oro receives its first Michelin star, curiously being also the first one awarded on the island of Madeira, a reward that it sees renewed consecutively until 2017, the year in which it is distinguished with two Michelin stars, which maintains until the date. The refinement of Mediterranean cuisine merges with the traditional Iberian blend, emerging a combination of Mediterranean products with high-quality ingredients from other regions of the Iberian Peninsula. Benoît Sinthon brings to the table the most refined Mediterranean and Iberian-inspired aromatic cuisine.
The ingredients, coming from the Island of Madeira, make the fresh products have a fundamental role in its extremely high creations. The dishes, which combine local ingredients with other high-quality ingredients from various other regions, surprise by the careful presentation, color, freshness of the elements and delicate flavours. The entrance is made along the lush wine cellar, which strengthens the bet on wines in a favorable environment in terms of light, temperature and humidity. The harmonious ambience of the room, in keeping with the award-winning quality of the cuisine, is the result of the careful refurbishment of the restaurant in 2012. Thanks to all this and much more, Il Gallo d’Oro has become the highest gastronomic symbol of the Ocean’s Pearl.

William
The recently renovated William restaurant of the historic Belmond Reid’s Palace hotel in Funchal has since 2015 Joachim Koerper as a consultant chef. The renowned chef, who already has a Michelin-starred restaurant in Lisbon, Eleven, gets one more distinction for the Country – it is the second restaurant in Madeira to enter the Guide. Luís Pestana is the executive chef of the restaurant and has worked for William for more than 25 years.
There are three tasting menus, all highly recommended, but also many a la carte suggestions such as the lavagante with cauliflower, the mullet with mashed potatoes or the supreme chicken with textures of beets. The restaurant has a privileged view over the bay of Funchal, becoming an authentic jewel in the Ocean’s Pearl (Madeira’s nickname).
